Response to Intervention (RtI)
Why is this topic important?
Response to Intervention (RtI) is a decision making process intended to provide early and more systematic intervention an monitoring in the general education setting. It involves good instruction in the classroom, followed by screening of students to identify those in need of more support. Students who don't respond well in the general education curriculum are then provided with increasingly intensive interventions matched to their needs. The idea was articulated in IDEA and other federal funding as a way to ensure the educational system is responsive to the needs of all learners.
