To
support high-quality reading instruction in grades K–12,
SERVE offers Literacy Exploration Activity Plans (LEAPs).
The LEAPs, designed as on-line, stand-alone professional development
activities, will guide teachers in examining research, leading
discussion, and providing reflection on:
- Reading
research
- Effectively
scheduling and using time for literacy
- Helping
struggling readers
- Assessing
students' spelling levels
- Discovering
and using spelling patterns
- Increasing
middle school and high school vocabulary

This
brochure describes helpful websites that focus on professional
development, school leadership, the role of reading coaches,
and scientifically based reading research pertaining to
Reading First.
Technology
GRITSonline
GRITS—Great
Resources for Integrating Technology in Schools—is
a web-based catalyst for engaging students and teachers
in online activities, lesson ideas, and reference materials
that promote collaborative, constructivist learning. GRITS
content is connected to curriculum standards in reading/language
arts, math, science, social studies, and instructional technology
from the six SERVE states.
