21st CCLCs help educators to provide expanded academic enrichment for children attending low-performing
schools. They provide tutorial services, youth development activities, counseling, prevention programs,
technology education, and enrichment activities to help enhance student achievement.

Afterschool.gov provides information on federal resources for after-school programs. There is also
information on how to operate an after-school program, planning activities, and community links.
Afterschool Alliance

The Afterschool Alliance is a non-profit organization formed to raise awareness of the importance of
after-school programs and to advocate for quality programs for all children by the year 2010. It serves
as a public resource by providing research data, educating the public, engaging communities in outreach
and advocacy, and promoting investment in after-school programs.
National Institute on Out-of-School Time (NIOST)

NIOST aims to improve the quality and availability of programs serving children and youth through research,
evaluation, consultation, policy development, public awareness, training, and curriculum development.
National School-Age Care Alliance (NSACA)

NSACA promotes national standards of quality school-age after-school programs for children and youth ages
514 and grants accreditation to programs meeting the standards. It also offers professional development
opportunities for educators and administrators.
