Symposium on Transportation for Homeless Children and Youth
Proceedings (2003) 
This resource is for educators, shelter providers, or anyone
interested in removing the school transportation barrier
for homeless students. These proceedings include descriptions
and features of successful transportation programs and strategies
to gain local, state, and federal support.

This
brochure explains the educational rights of children and

about NCHE's mission and services, including the NCHE national

Parent Pack (2003) 
This
sturdy, laminated folder provides parents a place to keep
important records and documents related to their children's
education. The folder also includes information on the rights
of children and youth experiencing homelessness and helpful
tips about enrollment and disenrollment. Available in Spanish
and English.
State Coordinator's Handbook for Supporting Local Homeless
Education Liaisons (2003) 
The State Coordinator's Handbook for Supporting Local
Homeless Education Liaisons is a useful tool to assist
State Coordinators for Homeless Education in implementing
the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act in their state.
The Handbook provides information and strategies
compiled from State Coordinators across the country for
identifying local liaisons (as required by federal law),
training liaisons in their role, and maintaining ongoing
communication with liaisons. The Handbook, developed
by NCHE in collaboration with the College of William and
Mary, is intended to be a companion document to the Local
Homeless Education Liaison Toolkit.
Students on the Move: Reaching and Teaching Highly Mobile
Children and Youth (2003) 
This handbook synthesizes research on the education of various
subpopulations of students who tend to be highly mobile
and explores common characteristics and significant differences.
Subpopulations explored include migratory children and youth,
children and youth experiencing homelessness, children of
military families, and students experiencing mobility on
a global scale.

Assessing Young Children (2003) 
This
document included a series of papers on theoretical and
practical issues associated with wide-scale assessment systems
that collect data from preschool- and kindergarten-age children.
Evaluations of School Readiness Initiatives: What Are We Learning?
(2003) 
This is a synthesis of evaluations and research on school
readiness programs. In addition to looking at what impact
the programs have on student outcomes, the methods used
to study these programs and developed recommendations for
improving the data collection—as well as improving
student outcomes—in school readiness programs were
also examined.

report details results from a content analysis conducted
on 38 sets of early learning standards available for review
in November 2003. The report provides an in-depth look at
the areas of children’s learning and development that
have and have not been addressed in early learning standards
developed by states to define expectations for preschool-age
children.

This document identifies which states have developed early
learning standards, provides descriptive information about
the nature of the standards, provides data about the process
