Formative Teacher Evaluation

Assessment of Teacher Practice

Formative Teacher Evaluation addresses the needs of an adult learner through supportive growth opportunities in a job-embedded experience. As such, it is less about evaluation and more about development. Teachers are provided with a structured method of developing skills and practices through collaboration with colleagues and documentation of their progress. Colleagues who serve as peer coaches, Critical Friends, or members of structured study groups such as Professional Learning Teams provide realistic feedback essential to growth. Documentation may include portfolios, student work samples, teacher reflection, or any source pertinent to the goal(s) set following analysis of current practice.
