Teachers
as Researchers
Improving
classroom teaching and building a craft-knowledge
base ultimately drive school improvement. Teacher
or action research involves identifying a problem,
learning what others have done to address the problem,
devising and implementing relevant strategies, collecting
and analyzing data, and sharing findings with colleagues.
SERVE is developing processes, tools, and resources
designed to train, engage, and support teachers in
becoming reflective practitioners by developing teacher
researchers.

Teachers
as Researchers Academy (TARA)
SERVE develops investigative skills through the Teachers as
Researchers Academy (TARA), which trains, engages, and supports
teachers in collaborative action research. The process begins
with workshop training in how best to conduct meaningful research
focused on students' specific learning needs. Training is
followed by various forms of support in the implementation,
ongoing analysis, and refinement of the action-research projects.
TARA builds individual and group expertise in critical-inquiry
skills and promotes the development of school cultures of
research-oriented collaboration.
