Georgia
SERVE Center has a significant history of working with educators in Georgia, beginning in 1990 with the U.S. Department of Education's Regional Educational Laboratory- Southeast (REL-SE). SERVE Center's state liaison helps link research, public policy, and resources to the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) and statewide school improvement initiatives. The SERVE Center's vision of an educational system that empowers and equips all people to realize their infinite possibilities and promise is aligned with the GaDOE's vision to "lead the nation in improving student achievement." below are some examples of the work that we do through the REL-SE to support GaDOE's vision.
Career Academy Charter Schools Implementation Replication in Georgia
REL-SE produced a report in 2010 entitled Replication of a Career Academy Model: The Georgia Central Educational Center and Four Replication Sites. The study surveyed four career academies in Georgia that replicated the model of the Georgia Central Educational Center, which integrates technical instruction and academics at the high school level. The four replication sites adhered to the major tenets of the model. The model's flexibility helped the new sites meet community needs. Download the report.
Southeastern States Common Core State Standards Working Group
REL-SE has formed at the request of the Georgia Department of Education a working group of staff in the six Southeastern states' State Education Agencies that are responsible for the planning and/or implementation of the Common Core State Standards. This group provides a forum for staff across the region to communicate, collaborate, problem solve, and share information and resources to support their work in implementing these new standards towards the goal of improved student achievement.
