Professional Development

The SERVE Education Policy Program conducts two professional development activities annually for education policymakers and school reform professionals.

SERVE Policy Network

Education policy staffs from the SERVE region are members of the SERVE Policy Network. The Network consists of counsels and advisors to education legislative committees, education policy advisors to governors, policy advisors to state boards of education, and key policy staff in state departments of education.

The SERVE Policy Network meets annually. The research examined includes pre-K standards work in the region and nationally, research on high schools with high percentages of dropouts, the costs of preparing quality teachers, and a discussion around teacher mobility in the Southeast.

Education Policy Program

The SERVE Education Policy Program co-sponsors the Southern States Seminar with the SERVE Reading and School Improvement Program. This meeting brings together state department staff from school improvement, policy, and federal programs to discuss issues of school reform.
