National Organizations

National Governors Association (NGA)

Since their initial meeting in 1908 to discuss interstate water problems, governors have worked through the National Governors Association to deal with issues of public policy and governance relating to the states. The association's ongoing mission is to support the work of the governors by providing a bipartisan forum to help shape and implement national policy and to solve state problems.

 


National Parent Teacher Association

The National PTA is the oldest and largest volunteer association in the country dedicated to children and education.

The National School Boards Association

The National School Boards Association (NSBA) is a nationwide advocacy and outreach organization for public school governance.

Public Education Network (PEN)

This website of a large membership network provides access to current news stories, funding information, professional development opportunities, publications, and background briefings on a broad variety of topics. There is state-by-state information on Local Education Funds.

Phi Delta Kappa (PDK)

PDK is an international association for professional educators. The organization's mission is to promote quality education as essential to the development and maintenance of a democratic way of life by providing innovative programs, relevant research, visionary leadership, and dedicated service.

What Kids Can Do

What Kids Can Do is a national nonprofit organization that promotes the value of young people working with teachers and other adults on projects that combine powerful learning with public purpose.

National Institutes and Clearinghouses

The Brookings Institution

The Brookings Institution traces its beginnings to 1916, when a group of leading reformers founded the Institute for Government Research (IGR)—the first private organization devoted to analyzing public policy issues at the national level.

Center for Education Reform

The Center for Education Reform (CER) delivers practical, research-based information and assistance to a diverse audience, including parents, policymakers, and education reform groups, in taking actions to ensure that U.S. schools are delivering a high-quality education for all children in grades K–12.

Center on Education Policy (CEP)

The Center on Education Policy is a national, independent advocate for public education and for more effective public schools. The Center helps Americans better understand the role of public education in a democracy and the need to improve the academic quality of public schools.

Committee for Education Funding (CEF)

The Committee for Education Funding (CEF) comprises over 100 organizations dedicated to the goal of achieving adequate federal financial support for our nation's schools and students at all levels. CEF is a voluntary, nonprofit, and nonpartisan coalition.
