National Institutes and Clearinghouses

Created in 1985, the Consortium for Policy Research in Education (CPRE) unites researchers from five of the nation's leading research institutions—the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University, Stanford University, the University of Michigan, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison—in an effort to improve elementary and secondary education through practical research.

 


The Heritage Foundation

Founded in 1973, The Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institute (a think tank) whose mission is to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.

Institute for Urban and Minority Education

The Institute conducts research and evaluations, provides information services, and assists schools, community-based organizations, and parent school leaders in program development and evaluation, professional development, and parent education.

The Manhattan Institute

For 25 years, the Manhattan Institute has been an important force in shaping American political culture. It has supported and publicized research on our era's most challenging public policy issues: taxes, welfare, crime, the legal system, urban life, race, education, and many other topics.

National Center for Policy Analysis

Established in 1983, The National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy research organization. The NCPA's goal is to develop and promote private alternatives to government regulation and control, solving problems by relying on the strength of the competitive, entrepreneurial private sector.

National Center on Educational Outcomes

The National Center on Educational Outcomes (NCEO) was established in 1990 to provide national leadership in designing and building educational assessments and accountability systems that appropriately monitor educational results for all students, including students with disabilities and students with limited English proficiency.

National Clearinghouse for English Language Acquisition

OELA's National Clearinghouse for English Language Acquisition and Language Instruction Educational Programs (NCELA) collects, analyzes, synthesizes, and disseminates information about language instruction educational programs for English language learners and related programs.

National Teacher Recruitment Clearinghouse

Established in 1986, Recruiting New Teachers, Inc. works to raise esteem for teaching, expand the pool of qualified teachers, and promote strategies for effective teacher recruitment, development, and retention.

The Rand Corporation

For more than 50 years, the RAND Corporation has pursued its nonprofit mission by conducting research on important and complicated problems such as business, education, health, law, and science. RAND's innovative approach to problem solving has become the benchmark for all other “think tanks”that followed.

Center for Teaching Quality (CTQ)

CTQ is a regional organization with a national agenda to ensure that all students have access to high-quality teaching.  

The Thomas B. Fordham Foundation

The Thomas B. Fordham Foundation, based in Washington, D.C., supports research, publications, and action projects of national significance in elementary/secondary education reform, as well as significant education reform projects in Dayton, Ohio and vicinity. It has assumed the work of the Educational Excellence Network.

National Rural Education Association

Formerly known as the REA, the Association traces its origins back to 1907 when it was originally founded as the Department of Rural Education. Through the years, it has evolved as a strong and respected organization of rural school administrators, teachers, board members, regional service agency personnel, researchers, business and industry representatives, and others interested in maintaining the vitality of rural school systems across the country.

The Rural School and Community Trust is a national non-profit organization rooted in rural America. Its mission is to help rural schools and communities get better together.
