Head
Start Information—Transition Coordinators and Others
A Focus on Outcomes
The
Head Start Bureau, overseeing the program at the federal level, has
guidelines to specifically assist programs in assessing the impact of
Head Start services upon children. These guidelines, the Child Outcomes
Framework, offer direction to programs as they assess their overall
performance in relationship to the accomplishments of children. The
Framework, however, is intended to be “customized”
for each program’s use and is not intended to be used as a checklist
to score the progress of individual children. The Child Outcomes
Framework can be helpful in communicating with parents and local
school systems concerning the early childhood domains and domain elements
that Head Start programs recognize as vital to child growth and development.
