Reaching Out to Homeless and Migrant Families
This two-part online course, provided by Verizon Literacy Campus (VLC), covers important issues in supporting literacy among homeless and migrant families. Courses are provided free of charge and require only a simple registration process, including choosing a username and password so that VLC can track your progress through each course.

Unaccompanied Homeless Youth in Illinois: 2005
This report, released jointly in 2005 by the Illinois Department of Human Services, the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, and the University of Illinois at Chicago, provides updated statewide estimates of the number of homeless unaccompanied youth in Illinois. It also provides a picture of homelessness among unaccompanied youth, including unmet service needs and portraits of their lives living on the street or in other homeless situations.

Collaborations of Schools and Social Service Agencies
This report explores collaborative efforts of schools and social service agencies working with homeless children and families. The report identifies frequently encountered barriers and successful strategies to overcome them. It examines specific programs and practices that could be adapted effectively for use in similar settings by school-level educators, local homeless liaisons, state homeless coordinators, social service workers, and other personnel who work in any capacity with homeless students.

Virginia PTA approves a policy statement in support of homeless education
The Virginia Parent Teacher Association (VAPTA) approved a policy statement at its annual conference in November in support of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. The statement supports the elimination of barriers to homeless children attending public school and pledges VAPTA's support in encouraging affiliate organizations to enact similar resolutions and in submitting a similar resolution for consideration by the National PTA.

Developing Performance Measures for Homeless Programs
This report from Abt Associates, Inc.,examines the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s performance measures for the Supportive Housing Program, Shelter Plus Care, Single Room Occupancy Moderate Rehabilitation for the Homeless and Emergency Shelter Grants programs, which are funded by McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grants. The report discusses the weaknesses and strengths of HUD’s current measures and identifies opportunities for improving these measures.
