Program Description: The Child In Transition/Homeless Project, Anchorage School District's McKinney-Vento/Title I program, provides support specifically for homeless adolescents addressing issues encountered as they continue and complete their secondary education. Barbara Dexter, Secondary Teacher Specialist, works with adolescents, especially youth on their own, and provides outreach, advocacy, supplemental educational services, and support to access non-educational services. Two particular areas of expertise are relationships with the child welfare department and supplemental academic instruction, including an evening program for youth on their own.
